August 11, 2002


By a decision of April 30, 2002, of the NKR National Assembly, the next presidential election was scheduled for August 11, 2002

The Central Electoral Commission registered the following presidential candidates:
Grigory S. Afanasyan – Co-chair of the “Unity” social and political organization, nominated by the same organization;
Arthur B. Tovmasyan – Associate professor of the Artsakh State University, nominated by civil initiative;
Albert A. Ghazaryan – Chairman of the NKR Christian-Democratic Party, nominated by the same party; 
Arkady A. Ghukasyan – incumbent President of the NKR, nominated by civil initiative. 
According to the protocols submitted by the Regional (municipal) and Precinct Electoral Commissions, the voting results of the regular presidential election were as follows:
