The NKR National Assembly scheduled the next presidential election for July 19, 2007.
Based on the amendments and supplements made to the NKR Electoral Code, the 22District Electoral Commissions were dissolved, and 8 Territorial Electoral Commissions were formed instead.։
The Central Electoral Commission registered the following presidential candidates:
-Armen B. Abgaryan- Deputy of the NKR National Assembly, nominated by civil initiative;
-Vanya G. Avanesyan - PHD of Artsakh State University, nominated by civil initiative;
-Masis S. Mayilyan - Deputy Foreign Minister of the NKR, nominated by civil initiative;
-Hrant A. Melkumyan- Head of the NKR Government’s Control Service, nominated by the NKR Communist Party;
-Bako S. Sahakyan - Director of the National Security Service under the Government of the NKR, nominated by civil initiative.

Based on the protocols, submitted by the Precinct Electoral Commissions, the Central Electoral Commission summarized the voting results and declared Bako S. Sahakyan thePresident-elect of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic։
The presidential election was observed by more than 100 observers from the United States, Russia, the Ukraine, France, Belgium, Serbia, Italy, Macedonia (FYROM), the Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, the Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Armenia, etc. The election process was covered by more than 70 local and foreign reporters.
