On September 18 of this year, the fifth regular local elections have been held in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. Elections for community leaders were held in 148 of the 227 communities of the republic, and in 206 communities voters elected members of municipal councils. 

No elections were held in 18 communities, since the term of the previous local self-government authorities had not expired. 213 candidates were self-nominated for community leaders and 1215 candidates for council members.
From 93,243 voters in the republic, 54,697 or 58.66 per cent of the voters participated in the voting. According to the vote, 142 community leaders and 1072 members of municipal councils were elected.
The number of voters who voted for the candidates for Mayor of Stepanakert was as follows:
                         Edward Aghabekyan   -   3731 voters or  24,36%
                         Suren Grigoryan        -     9581 voters or  62,57%
                         Marat Hasratyan    -         2001  voters or 13,07%
                   Suren A. Grigoryan was elected Mayor of Stepanakert.
